Lilo Nein (*1980)

visual artist, lives and works in Vienna.

Diploma studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and PhDArts at Leiden University / kabk Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten Den Haag, Netherlands. Currently lecturer at the Institute for Education in the Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

She received the Start Stipend (2010), the State Stipend (2013) for Fine Arts by the Austrian Federal Chancellery and the Performance Award H13 of Kunstraum Niederösterreich (2012).

Lilo Nein’s artistic practice pivots around the relation of text and performance. Performance is hereby understood as multi-media translation process evolving between the concept, the staging and the recording. Nein’s practice operates in the spaces of / produced by writing and examines its artistic qualities as well as the general characteristics. Nein produces work which can be looked at, spoken, sung and interpreted by music.

Her works were shown at Austria Cultural Forum New York, Museum of Modern Art Salzburg, Salzburger Kunstverein, Künstlerhaus Wien, Vienna Art Week, MA*GA Art Museum Gallarte Italy, MASS MoCA Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, Index – The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation, Intersect Project Space der RMIT University Melbourne, MUSAC Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Castilla y León.

Starting Feb 2018, the Vienna based contemporary artist Jianan Qu established a monthly exhibition program: The BLANKETs – a non commercial, professional, open space for young artists to share their works and experiments.
